The fourth abnormal load in a week is set to bring delays to Swindon’s roads as it makes its way to the BMW plant.

The convoy, which includes two massive panel presses, will be escorted by Wiltshire Police as it enters the county at junction 18 of the M4 at 10.45am tomorrow morning.

It will exit the M4 at junction 15 before heading towards the Rat Trap roundabout on the A419.

After exiting at the Rat Trap it will travel along Highworth Road, Hobley Drive and then Swindon Road before arriving at its destination.

Both loads will be 4.90 metres wide and weigh 80 and 110 tonnes respectively.

A statement from Wiltshire Police said: "Due to both width and weight, the load will be slow moving and have the potential to cause congestion at junctions and also within Swindon where oncoming traffic will be required to pull in and wait for the convoy to pass.

"Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across said move.

"Anyone travelling over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey."

The police escort is being paid for by the hauler at no cost to the taxpayer.
