A WOMAN in her 70s was arrested by police yesterday on suspicion of having an imitation firearm in a public place.
Officers were called to the Kennet and Avon Canal at Semington yesterday evening after reports a person with a firearm had been seen with gun on a boat.
A police spokesman said: "Officers were called to an incident on the Kennet and Avon Canal at approximately 6.45pm last night following a report that a woman had been seen in possession of a suspected firearm on a boat. "A woman in her 70s was arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm in a public place and taken to Melksham custody for questioning.
"She has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue."
