PARENTS of children at Woodborough's primary school got their running shoes on to raise over £1100.

Three parents of the C of E school ran a sponsored half marathon to say thank you for the education, support and dedication all the staff have shown the children during lockdown.

People cheered the runners on from the school gates and surrounding villages, providing them with water stops and jelly babies for energy.

Headteacher Sarah Brewis said: “The support of our families is always amazing and has remained unwavering throughout lockdown. Our whole school community have continued to engage wholeheartedly and maintained a sense of togetherness despite being apart. This weekend’s half marathon is another wonderful example of how everyone works together to share and spread what we like to call our ‘Woodborough Magic’.”

Parent, Graham Bryant who planned the route said: “I have two children at the school and it was on a lockdown run that took me past the school I had the idea to run a 1/2 marathon. I wanted to raise some money to show my appreciation to all the staff for their tireless hard work in support of our children and us as parents. The response has been phenomenal.”

They hope to repeat the event next year - with children running.
