The following planning applications have been decided on by Wiltshire Council this week.

Rowde: Mr Kelly of Old Durlett in Durlett Road has had an application for a two-storey extension to the side of the house and minor external and internal alterations and erection of new entrance gates, approved.

Castle Coombe: Plans have been approved for internal alterations to the cellar of the Castle Inn, to incorporate a microbrewery. The plans also include the removal of the lobby to the reception area.

Minety: Plans have been approved for the creation of a pond for great-crested newts (pictured). Mr King of Armyn Cross Farm in Ravensroost Road, has had his application to build the pond approved under the District Level Licensing Scheme, in a permanent grass field for the benefit of the European protected species.

Calne: Planning permission has been refused to Mr Owen of Candleford Cottage in Stockley. He submitted a proposal to convert an outbuilding into a holiday let. The plans were rejected due to the ‘inappropriate scale, design and sitting’ of the proposed holiday and was deemed to be ‘harmful to the landscape character’.

Devizes: An application by the Crown Centre hotel in Devizes for a light to illuminate the hotel sign has been rejected. The decision said that the Grade 2-listed building has a ‘high aesthetic value’ and that the proposed trough light ‘is visually intrusive and has an adverse impact on the aesthetic and architectural value of the façade’ of the hotel.

Melksham: Mr and Mrs Guncu have been granted planning permission to install a replacement sign at the front of their shop on 28 High Street, which is a listed building.

Bratton: A Norway spruce is due to be felled at 21 Strandbrook after an application by Mr Ellis met no objections.

Bradford on Avon: An application by Mr Dustan of 1 Bear Close to construct a two-storey side extension has been approved.

Bradford on Avon: Planning permission has been granted to Mr Cuff of Potticks Mead to build a shed to house a tractor and other agricultural equipment.

Colerne: A new one-bedroom dwelling at The Old Forge in Silver Street is due to be built following the demolition of an existing garage, after a successful application by Mr Langley.

Chippenham: An application by Mr Gardner for a single-front-storey and two-storey rear extensions, and wider access for three car parking at 2 Bayliffes Close, has been approved.

Warminster: Proposed alterations to a boundary wall to move the vehicle access at 3 Lower Marsh have been rejected. The plans, submitted by Mr Jones, were refused on the grounds that the plans ‘would result in an unjustified and harmful loss of a section of a listed wall abutting The Close’.

Malmesbury: Plans have been approved to repair to the cowshed roof timbers and brick piers at Whychurch Farm. Additionally, the plans submitted by Mr Weaver included a replacement oak wall plate on the front elevation, the removal of a blockwork pier, which is due to be replaced with brick to match existing and reclad with timber on the front wall.

Marlborough: Repairs are due to go under way at Marlborough College’s north block following a successful application. The works include repairs to the brickwork, cutting out defective sections of limestone window and replacing it with new stone to match the existing stone. Sections of the lead flat roofing will also be replaced or repaired, as well as pointing work on the chimney stack and bell tower.

In a separate application, the college was granted permission construct new changing rooms, and refurbish its existing toilets and changing rooms including provision of new disabled toilet accessible from exterior at the racket and squash courts.

Warminster: The Warminster Athenaeum Trust has been granted planning permission for alterations and extensions to form additional backstage facilities.

Luckington: Planning permission has been given to Mr Cole of Cottles Lane in Bradford on Avon, to demolish an existing conservatory at the rear of 4 Polar Gardens, The Street, Luckington. The application also includes permission to replace the existing conservatory with a single-storey extension and the construction of a summerhouse in the garden.
