A MAN was hit to the ground and kicked by a gang of robbers in an "unprovoked attack" during the early hours in Bournemouth town centre.

The victim, a man aged in his 40s, had a black bag, which contained keys and a bank card stolen from him.

He was helped by two members of the public before going to hospital. He suffered a fractured shoulder.

Officers investigating the incident have issued a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

At around 12.45am on Monday, May 25, the victim was walking along Old Christchurch Road in the area of Richmond Gardens when he was approached from behind by a group of people who became verbally abusive toward him.

Some of the members of the group proceeded to hit the victim. He then fell to the ground and was kicked.

DC Holly Sexton, of Bournemouth CID, said: “This was an unprovoked attack, which left the victim with a nasty injury and I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.

“As part of my enquiries I am releasing a CCTV image of someone I would like to speak to. Anyone with information as to his identity is asked to contact Dorset Police.

“I am also particularly keen to hear from the two members of the public who assisted the victim.”
