TRADERS and retailers are bringing Trowbridge town centre back to life following some Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown restrictions being lifted.

The Free Range Cafe & Deli is now offering a takeaway service at the Old Town Hall in Market Street.

The cafe and delicatessen has re-opened to sell all of the nation's favourite cappuccinos, lattes and barista coffees.

Free Range Café managing director Alex Joll said: "People are beginning to come back into the town centre.

"Subway has re-opened and the office workers and building workers are coming back.

“After extensive work, the cafe has moved its coffee machine and other vital equipment. This will enable service to take place from the doorway of the Trowbridge Town Hall.

"People will be able to come to the service counter without entering the building and still maintain two-metre social distancing.

"They can order their favourite frothy-coffee along with award-winning pasties, pies and sausage rolls."

In addition, the cafe is offering its customers light meals, sandwiches and some cakes.

Mr Joll, 53, added: "Although the menu is more limited than normal, all the favourites will be there.

"This means that essential workers and people that have to go to the town centre for these services will be able to get proper coffees and a hot meal.

"The cafe also offer freshly-baked artisan sourdough breads and some deli style favourites."

The local food entrepreneur added: "We are keen to get back to work and support the key workers as best we can.

"Although we don't expect to be busy at first, I am sure people will be pleased to see some sort of normality return.

"The cafe is offering a ten per cent discount to all key workers; all they need to do is bring some ID."

Mr Joll applied for one of the government's loans, in addition to small grants, to ensure his business survives the coronavirus crisis but has not heard whether his applications have been successful.

"We have applied for a loan as well as grants that were for small hospitality businesses like ours but have had nothing.

"We have had all our events cancelled this season and most weddings postponed or cancelled. A large part of the business has basically gone for 2020, so it is vital for us, our staff and our customers that we get open again."

Free Range Cafe & Deli champions local food and producers as well as selling its own products.

The cafe is open from 9am until 2pm every day other than Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Trowbridge's zero waste shop "We Are Undressed" is also based in the Old Town Hall.

The shop has been supplying people with all the essentials and has kept trading throughout.

It is offering a click and collect service, as well as home delivery, through its website.
