HELP is at hand to get more older Island residents to download the coronavirus contact tracing app, which the Isle of Wight is trialling.

Support from Age UK Isle of Wight is being offered to older Islanders, delivered through telephone and online support, to give residents confidence to use the app or to answer technical questions.

Ongoing help and advice is available to users if they receive notification from the app about contact or experienced user issues.

Isle of Wight County Press:

Jo Dare, chief executive of Age UK IW, said: "We appreciate some older residents may have questions about aspects of using this app including which types of smart phone the app will work with and what information the app holds about each individual.

"Others may lack confidence to try and download the app — we have staff and community digital volunteers who might be able to help with this.

"As people aged over 70 have been self-isolating and staying at home, we believe it is possible that older people felt the app wasn’t needed by them. We all hope that over the coming weeks and months, with the easing of restrictions, more older people may want to use the app and we are here to help them.”

More than 55,000 people have downloaded the trial NHSX track and trace app, which alerts people if they have come into contact with someone who has reported symptoms or tested positive for Covid-19 on the Island, before the app and contact tracing method is rolled out nationwide.

A video featuring former High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Geoff Underwood, demonstrates how to download the app for all those that haven't.
