MEMBERS of Urchfont Sewing and Craft Group have put together this quilt to celebrate the 75th anniversaries of VE and VJ Day. Each square represents the thoughts and memories of the individual who constructed it.
A spokesman said: “It caused much discussion amongst the group, evoking many memories of the difficult jobs that were done and sacrifices made by our families to help the war effort.
“There were a great many important things achieved for the war effort by ordinary men and women, with great determination. The quilt only contains a few of these achievements as they were so many it was impossible to include them all.”
There are several military themed squares, one of which includes the badge and complete record of the journey of one soldier in the 8th army.
Each member helped to produce a square measuring 10” x 10” The quilt will eventually be hung in Urchfont Village Hall for everyone to enjoy.
