Health secretary Matt Hancock will later today be providing more information about the tracking and tracing app being trialled on the Isle of Wight as well as answering questions from an Isle of Wight journalist.

At the daily press briefing this afternoon (Monday), local democracy reporter for the Isle of Wight, Louise Hill, will be putting questions to the minister and the experts of the day about the app being rolled out across the Island.

Hot topic at the moment, a lot of questions remain about the app being trialled on the Island.

Potential questions which could be asked, depending on what is said beforehand, include:

  • Can you assure concerned Island residents, who are wary of using the app, that their data will be kept fully protected and private throughout this trial and going forward?
  • Has research been done into the data infrastructure on the Island to make the trial meaningful?
  • As the app is launched and started to be used, could it help the Island come out of lockdown any earlier than other parts of the country?
  • One in four adults on the Island are over the age of 65, some with no smart phones and some self-isolating due to age. Can you guarantee there will be enough usage of the app and it will not hamper a meaningful trial?

The briefing, usually, starts at 5pm with the minister of the day making a statement followed by press questions.
