A TIMBER supplier has partly resumed work at its Wiltshire sawmills.

After the country went into lockdown on March 23 many businesses closed its doors or put things on hold.

Vastern Timber cuts and produces logs made of different woods including oak, ash, sweet chestnut and sycamore.

Its Royal Wootton Bassett and Calne sites are now re-opening, but observing the lockdown and social distancing rules.

MD Tom Barnes said: “We are very pleased to be back, although it’s not business as usual.”

The company is in its fourth generation and has over 50 employees.

Vastern Timber isn’t allowing visitors, it is either delivering or people can go pick up collections.

Mr Barnes said: “Safety is our first priority, so please bear with us as we adapt to the guidelines on social distancing at work.”

The firm's future plans of building a solar-powered production unit at its Bassett site has been delayed because of the coronavirus.

“I look forward to welcoming customers back to our showroom as soon as possible, and meanwhile we’ll do our best to deliver in the current circumstances,” he said.
