FOR the second week in a row, Swindonians have come together to applaud healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic and other key workers.

All across town, people stood at their front doors or outside their windows to show their support for hardworking hospital staff as well as supermarket staff, care workers, bin collectors, teachers and others. 

The event is expected to happen every Thursday at 8pm.

Tracy Fisher said: “We clapped in Heddington Close in Penhill. I am a support worker for the disabled and we are working 14 hours a day now. So, thank you all who mentioned us.”

Carolyn Simpson said: “We clapped and cheered in Nythe. Thank you key workers!”

People on Melksham Close, Barton Road, Chamberlain Road, Bramwell Close, Penhill Drive, Edale Moor, Westbury road, Ridgeway Road, Vicarage Road, Kingswood Avenue, Leighton Avenue, Cricklade Road, Bourne road, Carstairs Avenue, Marlowe Avenue, Whitbourne Avenue, Hawkins Street all got involved.

Police cars assembled at Great Western Hospital and turned on their blue lights to show their support. 

PM Boris Johnson, who is still in self-isolation after testing positive for Covid-19, stepped out of No10 to clap.
