REGISTRATION of births and deaths have changed in light of the coronavirus pandemic and government advice to stay at home.

The Isle of Wight Council has said in order to keep our community and registration staff safe and at home, new measures have been put in place including the registration of deaths being undertaken only by phone.

Registrars are now working from home, registering deaths by phone but appointments to register will need to be booked by calling (01983) 823233 and pressing option 1.

From there, funeral paperwork will be emailed directly to the relevant agencies.

Death certificates will not be produced at registration but can be ordered online here.

Registering births have been currently suspended — new parents will need to register the birth at a later date once the national suspension is lifted.

Civil and marriage ceremonies have also been deferred until the current pandemic passes.
