Son confirmed as man being questioned in Ham attempted murder

A woman in her 60s found at the scene with multiple injuries is his mother. She was found with a man in his 70s inside the address at Hayfield on Cutting Hill, by paramedics with multiple injuries.

A man, in his 40’s, has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder and remains in custody.

Crime scene investigators are now at the scene, and are expected to be there for a few days while forensics are carried out.

Police officers were called to a disturbance at a house called Hayfield in the small, rural hamlet of Ham near Shalbourne, a few miles from Marlborough, on Monday evening at around 7.30pm.

Police helicopters circled the spot casting spotlights in and around the house on Cutting Hill before landing in a nearby field.

A woman in her 60s and a man in his 70s were found inside the address by paramedics with multiple injuries.

The woman was taken to Southampton Hospital with serious head injuries where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

The man was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon and is in a serious but stable condition.

The suspect, who is in his 40s and from the Hampshire area, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder. He remains in Gablecross custody in Swindon for further questioning.

“There were a lot of police cars and helicopters were circling for some time,” said Ham resident Rosie Hawkins.

“We didn;t know what was going on. It’s so quiet here usually. We locked the doors just in case.”

Det Insp Mark Kent said: “We can confirm that the man currently in custody is known to the two victims and this is being treated as a domestic incident.

“We understand this news will undoubtedly cause concern at a time when there are high levels of anxiety within our communities. Please be reassured that there is no wider risk to the public and we are conducting extensive enquiries today in relation to this incident.
