THE Salvation Army's Foodbank in Chippenham is expanding its activities during the coronavirus crisis.

“After we had risk assessed and put into place new cleaning regime, hand washing and practicing social distances, the food bank in Foghamshire is open for extended hours Wednesday 10-3 and Friday 10-1pm,” says Dawn McGarvey, Major Corps Officer.

She added: “We now have an appointments only system so we can limit the number of people who are attending at one time and you can call us on 01249 655458.

Commenting on this week, she said: "We have a new team of volunteers and can do deliveries for those self isolating. The demand has been unprecedented.

"50 adults and 70 children have been helped in two days alone, which is what we usual do in three months.

“We are grateful for pubs and cafes who had to close for donating their leftover food. I think we accomplished a miracle on Friday, with many tons of food delivered and nothing was wasted.

“We are using Tuesdays to make up parcels for deliveries.

“At the moment we have a decent amount of food but are lacking in potato products and UHT milk.”
