CHILDREN from a Calne school can get on their bikes with confidence after passing their Bikeability tests with flying colours.

All 27 pupils in Year 6 at St Margaret’s Preparatory School took part in the Bikeability course which included learning how to look after their bikes, as well as staying safe on the roads.

Year 6 teacher Emma Symonds said: “The children took part in both Level 1 and 2 of Bikeability.

“The course teaches children how to ride safely and they all really enjoyed it despite the weather being very wet on the first day. They were very pleased to get their badges.”

St Margaret’s headmaster Luke Bromwich was delighted to see one newly qualified pupil leading her family on a cycle ride the weekend after the Bikeability course.

A spokesman for Bikeability Wiltshire said: “Bikeability is the national cycle training programme, designed to give trainees the understanding they need to cycle confidently and safely.”

“In Wiltshire we deliver a combined Level 1/2 course for pupils in Year 6 and above. This takes place over two days, with a minimum of 10 hours training, starting in a traffic-free environment such as a playground and moving onto quiet local roads.”
