FIRE crews were called to a blaze at a derelict property in Chippenham during the hours of today amid fears people were inside.

Two crews from Chippenham and a third from Corsham were sent to Rowden Hill just after midnight

A fire service spokesman said: "On arrival the crew requested a fourth pump attend for breathing apparatus and further personnel, which was sent from Calne.

"Fire Control then received a further request for an aerial appliance which was mobilised from Bath by our colleagues in Avon FRS, along with a support pump and officer.

"Crews used two main jets, two hose reel jets, a short extension ladder and the aerial appliance to extinguish the fire involving the first floor and roof of a derelict property.

"Thankfully no persons were found to be inside and the crew confirmed all persons were accounted for. Police and Ambulance also attended to support the scene."
