NORTH Wiltshire MP James Gray will tomorrow put the murder of Calne schoolgirl Ellie Gould in the national spotlight when he speaks in the House of Commons.

Mr Gray has secured a 90 minute debate starting at 3pm on the subject of introducing self defence lessons into school.

He is backing a campaign started by three of Ellie’s closest friends Ellie Welling, Harriet Adams and Tilda Offen, who are sixth form pupils of Hardenhuish School, Chippenham.

Ellie’s mum Carole is still fighting for justice after Ellie’s killer Thomas Griffiths was handed a life sentence but told he may only serve 12 years.

She is pleased that Mr Gray plans to speak about sentencing during today’s debate.

She said: “We have been asking our Wiltshire MPs to support him. We hope they will all turn up.”

Earlier this year she met Lord Chancellor Robert Buckland and he said he would ask the Crown Prosecution Service to meet with the family to discuss the way the case was handled but she is till waiting for a response.
