A NURSERY has excluded all siblings of children who attend a Coronavirus-hit school 20 miles from Swindon.

Tiggers Nursery, based on Quercus Road in Tetbury, has made the decision following advice from Public Health England.

On Sunday, St Mary's Primary School headteacher Jo Woolley confirmed that a staff member at the school had tested positive for the Coronavirus.

All siblings of children who attend the primary school, along with any parents who teach at the school have been excluded from the nursery.

A spokesman for the nursery said: "I have spoken to Public Health England, who have advised that we exclude all siblings of children who attend the primary school, along with any parents who teach at the school in order for them to self-isolate if required and until we know further details, which we are currently awaiting from the school.

"We are extremely sorry for those will be excluded and for the inconvenience that this may cause, we are doing all that we can to protect our families and children in connection with our setting.

"We hope you can all understand the predicament we are in as we can only act on the advice given by the appropriate authorities.

"We are treating this very seriously, as our main priority is to protect your children, our staff and ultimately minimise the risk of the virus spreading.

"We will do everything in our power to remain operational and will keep obtaining up to date advice from the NHS and Public Health England.

"Please can all parent/carers inform the management team if they are travelling abroad, where and how long for so we can stay prepared."

St Mary's Primary School will be closed today and Tuesday, with the hope of re-opening on Wednesday.

A deep clean of the school was carried out on Saturday.

Sir William Romney's School has announced they will remain open following government advice.

Headteacher Jon Bell said: "You’re likely aware of the outbreak of novel coronavirus and the subsequent confirmed cases in the UK.

"At Sir William Romney’s we take the health and safety of our pupils and staff very seriously, so we’re sharing guidance from Public Health England on steps you should be taking.

"There’s currently no cause for concern at the school, but we’ll keep you informed about any developments and ensure we’re keeping the school clean to prevent the spread of any virus.

"As there has been no confirmed case of Coronavirus at SWR, we will be following government advice and will be open for students and staff.

It was also announced that a second person from the county has also tested positive for the virus, with Gloucestershire County Council confirming the cases are linked with both people becoming infected in Northern Italy.
