TALENTED pupils from a Calne school will be hitting all the right notes after reaching the semi-final of a prestigious national competition.

The Chamber Choir of St Margaret’s Preparatory School, Calne, has joined just four other junior school choirs at this stage of the BBC Songs of Praise Young Choir Of The Year competition.

It will now be judged by top recording artist and West End star Alexandra Burke along with Jaymi Hensley from the band Union J and vocal coach Mark De-Lisser.

The competition will be filmed for the BBC on March 21 and 22 at Butterworth Hall, Warwick Arts Centre in Coventry and will be hosted by Aled Jones.

Choirs from across the country applied and now the top five junior and senior choirs will perform in a bid to win the coveted titles.

St Margaret’s will be up against Deansfield Chamber Choir, Huddersfield Choral Young Voices, Norbreck Primary Academy Choir and Prince’s Mead Concert Choir.

Head of performing arts, Mrs Hilary Gibbin said: “I am very proud of the members of our Chamber Choir for reaching this stage. It has taken a lot of hard work.”

In the semi final the choir will sing Feel Good and if they make the final a new version of God Be In My Head by American composer, Andrea Ramsey

In 2018 and 2019 the school was awarded Wiltshire Choir of the Year and in March last year competed in the Barnardo’s National Choral Competition at The Festival Hall, London.
