A CAVERSHAM school teacher left lying in the road badly injured by a hit and run driver is hoping to be back at the teaching job she loves next week — on crutches.

Tina Digby, 40, works at Hemdean House School in Caversham and lives with her partner Dan Sullivan and their children Matthew, 17 and Maisie, 12.

She was knocked down near her home on her way to Tesco at around 8.25pm on Saturday, February 8, while crossing Slough Road in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire.

A passer-by had to drag her to safety and there were initial fears that she might lose her leg.

Speaking yesterday (February 26) from her hospital bed at St Mary's, Paddington, Tina said: "I am recovering from my fourth operation now.

"It looks like it has worked this time.

"I'm now able to dangle my leg off the bed.

"I can't stand yet but they are hoping they can get me on my feet this weekend and I am hoping to be able to return to work on crutches next week."

She is hoping to be able to return to her teaching job if all goes well and says the school has been very supportive, offering much needed transport to help her get in.

She explained: "I really miss teaching and have been wondering what the kids are doing. "It is a new role and I cannot wait to get back and make my mark."

She has managed to get some work done from her hospital bed at St Mary's Paddington.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the accident to call 101 quoting reference 43200045276.
