A FRIED chicken shop could soon get shut down after a stabbing and several fights.

Favourite Chicken & Pizza, on St Mary’s Butts, has raised the concerns of police because of the violence in and outside of the shop.

Thames Valley Police want to take away the chicken shop’s licence, because of these fears.

The police have applied for councillors at Reading Borough Council to review the licence, and potentially revoke it.

PC Simon Wheeler said this was because of “large scale fights, possession of drugs, a stabbing, and the use of a taser to arrest an individual”.

During one incident, he said: “People inside and outside of the shop were throwing food and fighting, and this was not being challenged by staff.”

He made the comments in a report to the licensing sub-committee, which will meet on Thursday, March 5.

PC Wheeler added: “During a disorder involving 20 plus people, a vehicle was seen to drive deliberately at a group of females walking along the street.

“There has been a history of poor management and processes linked to this premises licence, and numerous incidents of crime and disorder involving both individuals and groups.”

Reading Chronicle:

That part of St Marys Butts, by Favourite Chicken & Pizza, is the scene of lots of nighttime crimes in Reading, according to the police.

PC Wheeler said: “The position of this premises … has led to St Marys Butts maintaining its position as the highest crime generating street in Reading town centre, between the hours of 11pm and 6am.”

Councillors will decide at the meeting next week, after hearing from the police and the chicken shop, whether to take away the licence, impose new conditions, or suggest possible changes.
