A DIY enthusiast denies possession of an axe in a public place without a reasonable excuse.

Jamie Philip Anstey was allegedly found with the tool in Midwinter Close, west Swindon, on September 10.

He claimed he had picked up the axe from a friend in order to make some kitchen alterations.

Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court, the 41-year-old, of Galsworthy Close, Liden, pleaded not guilty to possession of a bladed article. He was bailed for the trial on June 11.
