A WELSH car part plant has become the latest casualty of Honda’s decision to pull out of Swindon next year.

Merthyr Tydfil-based Kasai will close in 2021 with the loss of 180 jobs.

The company makes internal parts for Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover, with around a fifth of its sales to Honda.

Rhymney Gerald Jones, Labour MP for Merthyr Tydfil, and assembly member Dawn Bowden said: "We are very disappointed to hear this announcement from Kasai, although the news does not come as a total surprise given the position at Honda in Swindon.

"This is the latest in a number of job losses in our constituency, which shows the vital importance of stepping up support and intervention for those businesses which can help to sustain local jobs."

Honda’s plant in South Marston employs around 1,200 people. Further jobs are at risk at Highworth-based TS Tech, which makes seats for the car.
