Power was restored by noon.
This morning, a spokesperson from SSE said: "We had reports of damage caused to underground cables at Throop.
"We've got engineers on the site at the moment.
"Quite a large number of customers have been affected - the number is around 2,800.
"However, the majority of those people will have their power restored soon.
"We believe everyone will be back on by 12pm today."
