THE bomb squad are on the scene in Penhill this evening.
Specialists were called to an address in Urchfont Way after police executed a warrant and found a number of suspicious items.
Nobody has been evacuated from the area as the probe continues.
A statement posted on the Swindon North Facebook page read: “During a warrant at an address in Urchfont Way, Penhill today, officers located a number of suspicious items.
“Due to the nature of the items located and in the interests of public safety, the fire service and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) have been called to the scene to ensure the area is safe.
"No residents have been required to evacuate at this stage.
“Officers remain at the address while the incident is dealt with.”
Local reaction
A neighbour, 25, said: “It’s one of them. What can you do? It can happen anywhere.
“I heard some banging. Next thing I know the door’s coming in.”
Vikki Lennon, 31, a mum-of-three, said: “It’s a bit worrying. I’ve got my kids here. I’ve heard nothing.”
An 18-year-old man, who asked not to give his name, said: “We get a lot of interesting things happening here, but the bomb squad – it’s one of the more interesting things to happen.”
Jessica Murphy hadn’t heard about the police raid: “It’s a pretty quiet area.”
