TEAM mates of footballer Abbii Demir who died just before Christmas aged 21 have launched a fundraising page to buy a headstone for her grave.

The funeral of Abbii, who is a former pupil of St John’s School, Marlborough and a stalwart of Marlborough Town Ladies, will be held today (January 16) at 2pm at St Michael and All Angels Church, West Overton, followed by a reception at the football club.

Friends are taking part in Dry January in a bid to raise £1,200.

Their Go Fund Me page says: “Abbii had been with Marlborough Town Ladies for many years. She was a great team mate both on and off the pitch and would organise team events and kept the spirit alive before, during and after games. There truly is no one quite like Abbii, her bubbly personality was infectious and she was a friend to everyone.”

Abbii had suffered heart problems since she was a baby but did not let it stop her living life to the full.
