A VILLAGE school has gone to the top of the class after being declared excellent in all areas by church inspectors.

Holy Trinity Church of England primary in Great Cheverell, near Devizes is now ranked in the top one per cent in the country for reading, writing and maths.

The Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools report covered a wide range of categories from leadership and academic outcomes to dignity and respect.

Head Mercedes Henning was delighted with the inspection. She said: “On academic outcomes our school is ranked in the top one per cent of all primary schools in the country, on the measure of achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and maths.

“This is one of the most important measures used by Ofsted to judge school effectiveness.”

“We are delighted that the inspectors were able to award us the highest grade of excellent in all areas.” They praised the school’s caring teachers who have high aspirations for all pupils.
