THE Cakehole on Moredon Road was the clear winner among our readers.

The bakery was established in 1996 and offers a wide range of homemade cakes, pastries, coffee and more.

Christina May Messen described the shop as being ‘ the best’ place for Victoria sponge.

Vicky Mackender, Michelle Carroll, Clare Hunt, and Vanna Jane all recommended The Cakehole.

The bakery is open between 7.00am to 5pm from Monday to Friday, between 8am and 4pm on Saturday and the shop is closed on Sunday.

2. The Olive Tree cafe, Manor Garden Centre

FOR Ginger Tom, Olive Tree Cafe is definitely the place to go for a delicious Victoria sponge.

The cafe makes fresh food including its own cakes, scones and biscuits.

Customers can order breakfasts, snacks and lunches. They use fresh products, including some from their own kitchen gardens.

The cafe is also a registered charity which aims to help those suffering from mental health issues.

This winter, the cafe is open from 9.30am to 3pm from Monday to Saturday, and between 10.30am and 3pm on Sunday.

3. Kingdom Coffee House, Unit 3 Greencote House, Isambard Way

The coffee shop opened only a year and a half ago but it was enough to seduce Claire Edwards.

When asked to recommend the best place in Swindon to get a Victoria cake, she mentioned Kingdom Coffee House.

The shop offers various cakes, including gluten free options.

Events are regularly organised to gather the community in north Swindon.

4. Dotty’s Old Town Café , Devizes Road

ANN Davis praised Dotty’s Old Town Café for its homemade products.

Janie White also recommended the place which offers a wide range of cakes and desserts.

The menu shows that customers can also breakfast for only £6.50.

All of their products are locally sourced.

Dotty’s can also help for meetings, events and seminars.

The shop is open between 8am and 2.30pm from Tuesday and Saturday and it is closed on Sunday and Monday.

5. Bloomfields Fine Food, Highworth, High Street

FOR Linda Lee, Bloomfields bakes the best Victoria sponge in the area.

The award-winning shop is based in various places across Wiltshire including Shrivenham and Highworth.

Much of what the store sell is locally sourced.

Cakes a freshly baked in each shop.

Customers can also get baguettes and sandwiches.

They received a ‘Highly Commended’ in the Great British Food Awards 2016.

6. Morrisons, Swindon

While some of our readers prefer to get a freshly baked Victoria sponge from tea rooms or bakeries, Lesley Davey buys her favourite at Morrisons.

Victoria sandwich can be bought from only £2 at the nearest supermarket.

The average rating on the Morrisons’ website is 4,5 out of 5.

There are two Morrisons in Swindon, the first one is on Tames Avenue, and the other one is on Eldene Drive.

7. Co-op, Swindon

FOR Fran Thorpe, the Co-op deserves to be mentioned when it comes to buying a Victoria sponge as a teatime treat.

Luckily for us, there are plenty of them across the town including branches in Old Town, on Groundwell Road and in Sussex Place.

The website also provides people with lots of different original recipes to have a go at baking in their own kitchen, such as the coconut and apricot version of the cake.
