A TEENAGER who was brutally assaulted in the town centre then had his necklace taken by two 'Good Samaritans' as he lay unconscious on the ground.

The 19-year-old had been for a night out in Swindon when he was knocked out by two men in Bridge Street in the early hours of December 21 and left with a broken jaw.

In the wake of the attack, two other men appeared to go to his aid but took the opportunity to remove his necklace.

The victim was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and has since undergone surgery on his jaw.

An 18-year-old man from Faringdon has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, interviewed and released on conditional bail while police enquiries continue.

Officers have released CCTV images of three people they would like to speak to about both the attack and the theft.

Det Sgt Justin Downes, from Swindon CID said: “This was a nasty assault which has left the victim with serious injuries which required surgery.

“We are releasing five CCTV images as part of our enquiries – three are of a man we want to speak to in connection with the initial assault, while the other two pictures are of two people we want to speak to in connection with the theft.

“What has made this even worse, is that while he was lying unconscious in the street, instead of being Good Samaritans and helping this injured man, two people have approached him and stolen his necklace.”

Anyone who recognises any of the men should call Wiltshire Police on 101.
