A GRIEF-stricken son who spent Boxing Day in the cells after being caught drink driving has been bailed so he can attend his dad’s funeral.

Geordie Joshua Galbraith will have to make the 600-mile round trip to the north east in the back seat of his friend’s motor. Under his bail conditions 29-year-old Galbraith is banned from riding in the front seat of any vehicle.

Galbraith, of Garth Road, Hilperton, was caught by police driving a BMW 116 in Devizes on Boxing Day while over the drink drive limit. Breathalyser tests showed he had 43 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35. Galbraith was already banned from driving.

Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, Galbraith admitted driving whilst unfit through drink, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance. He admitted other drug driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance matters related to an incident in Trowbridge in February.

Jonathan Lewis, defending, asked that his client was bailed to be sentenced in a week’s time. His father’s funeral was being held in Galbraith’s native north east on January 3.

Magistrates bailed Galbraith to be sentenced on January 15. Simon Wolfensohn, chairman of the bench, warned Galbraith to expect a prison sentence.
