Organisers of a Christmas event in Weymouth say changes have been made due to today's weather forecast.

'A Victorian Christmas Fayre' is taking place next to Swannery Lake near the Palm House, and is set to continue today.

However Nigel Duff, of the Palm House, posted a statement online last night which read: "Due to the bad weather this evening and expected on Sunday, we have taken the decision to cancel the external market stalls and stage for safety reasons.

"A revised entertainment programme is still going ahead inside the Palm House and Santa's grotto and Snow Sisters craft party are still happening.

"Apologies all round."

Razzamataz Theatre School were due to perform at 12pm during the event, but principal Lauren Bill confirmed that their performance had been called off.

The Met Office is forecasting "frequent and scattered blustery showers" which are expected to affect most of the south west throughout the day.

Forecasters say: "Showers will be driven on by strong to gale force winds, particularly around the coast. It will feel rather cold. Maximum temperature 10c."
