1. Park at The George at Burpham pub then turn left into Main Street.

Turn right into the first road you see and walk past some flint cottages. St Mary’s Church is to your right and as you walk there are views across flood meadows (which are likely full of water at this time of year) and Arundel Castle to your left.

At Peppering Farm turn right and continue along the lane until you come to a grass triangle where the road splits. Go right here and follow the lane downhill, then at the crossroads walk straight ahead. After approximately 200 yards take the first left.

2. Continue straight ahead along the path and when you reach a gate go through and keep straight ahead. When the path forks take the right hand path up towards the ridge of the hill.

At the top of the hill you come to a gate and a stile. Climb the stile and take the path across the field.

At the T junction go left on to a wide chalky track.

After a bend in the path take the turning on the left and after approximately 100 yards you will arrive at some gates. Go through the first set of gates and bear left following the broad track downhill.

3. Follow the path up and down the hills. At the bottom of the first hill go straight ahead up the steep track.

Continue along the path for approximately half a mile as it rises and falls. There are fantastic views along this section of the walk. At the T junction turn left.

4. After approximately 50 yards turn right down a broad grassy track which bends around to the right.

Follow this path, ignoring the turning to the right into the woods, and at the end of the grassy track continue straight ahead along the wide chalk path. After around 500 yards the main chalk track begins to turn to the left.

Just before this bend there is a large metal gate into a field. To the right of the gate is the entrance to a narrow footpath leading downhill. Take this footpath.

Continue over the stile and down the many steps. At the bottom turn left and walk along the grassy path skirting the Arun flood meadows (this path can be very boggy after wet weather).

As the track widens continue straight ahead, ignoring the first path to the right, until the bridleway begins to climb up a hill.

Climb over a stile to the right and follow the footpath into the field. Turn left and continue along the field’s edge.

This leads to a gate and stile into the next field.

Continue over the stile and go straight ahead. Walk through a signposted gap in the hedge and then through the next field keeping left.

5. Climb another stile and continue straight ahead. The bank of the river Arun is now to the right and you can get good views of the river if you climb it.

After a gate take the right hand path through the second gate.

There are the remains of a ruined barn to the left with the river to the right.

Walk all the way through the meadow (can be boggy) and at the end of the meadow go through the gate and follow the path as it begins to head uphill.

At the fork in the path turn left following the narrow alleyway with a fence to the left.

This leads past an old forge and onto a quiet lane. Continue along the road towards the church and the pub, the start and end point of the walk.
