DEVIZES Lions are celebrating a roaring success after its Christmas fair was declared a record breaker.

The traditional fair held in the Corn Exchange made a profit of £9,000 after people queued to make sure they had the best of the bargains.

Lion Tony Scorer said: “There was a huge variety of pre-loved items, generously given by local residents, which filled both floors of the Corn Exchange.

“The Club had sorted the donations before the fair to ensure that potential purchasers could find the items they wanted more easily – and as a result a number of stalls, including gifts, electrical equipment, books and a wonderful raffle all took over £1,000.

“The £9,000 is a welcome boost for our funds which are used to help local community causes.”

He also praised the support from people who joined Lions members to run the stalls.

The club is now preparing for its swimathon which will be held at Devizes Leisure Centre on Swimathon on February 29. People can raise money for their own charity.
