ONLY two of the four Parliamentary prospective candidates for North Wiltshire turned up at a husting at Malmesbury Abbey on Tuesday evening.

Liberal Democrat Brian Mathew and the Labour Party's Jonathan Fisher managed to put in an appearance.

But sitting MP James Gray for the Conservatives and Bonnie Jackson, the Green Party candidate, both sent their apologies.

The husting at the 12th century abbey were chaired by the Reverend Oliver Ross, who said: "James Gray and Bonnie Jackson were both invited but they were not able to come.

"James sent his apologies and said there had been a clash of events, while Bonnie had a family problem at home."

It's not the only husting that Mr Gray has missed during the current General Election campaign.

He failed to attend an event at the Royal Wootton Academy school on Monday, although he did attend a husting at The Wiltshire Hotel in Royal Wootton Bassett on Monday evening.

The hustings at the abbey were organised by Churches Together Malmesbury to give locals the opportunity to question the North Wiltshire constituency candidates.

At one point Mr Mathew was heckled by an audience member for the Liberal Democrat stance on Brexit.
