THE grand finale of this year’s Devizes Eisteddfod heard from the best of the best in the town hall on Saturday night.

The evening brought together performers from five days of music, speech, art, literature, drama and dance classes for the presentation of pre-adjudicated class winners and special Eisteddfod awards, plus the crowning of the Wiltshire Young Musician of the year.

Among the audience was David Scott the High Sheriff of Wiltshire who joined sponsors and proud parents.

The judges decided that the stand out performance which embodied the ethos of the festival was by violinist Eliza Munday who was named Wiltshire Young Musician of 2019. She played The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams

Eliza was presented with a cheque for £250 by Wansbroughs Solicitors and the president of Devizes Rotary, Paula Winchcombe. Other contenders were soprano Annabel Bigland, pianists Gabriel Longbotham and Liana Tian and flautist Madeleine Longbotham.
