RESIDENTS in Broughton Gifford have complained about dirty dog owners who don't clear up the mess their pet leaves behind.

Several have posted messages on a village events social media site urging owners and walkers to pick up their dog's mess.

One woman said: "I'm so fed up with someone leaving dog mess next to our drive, absolutely disgusting.

"I live in Curtis Orchard and it's been ongoing since we moved here, we have now installed a camera."

"So hopefully the perpetrator will get caught and have to pay a fine when I forward it to the police."

Another said some dog owners had watched their pets having a poo on grass verges, then bagged it up and left the bag behind.

Dog mess is an eyesore and a health hazard. If you are a dog owner, you have a legal duty to clean up every time your dog messes in a public place.

Wiltshire Council is obliged by law to keep public places such as pavements, parks and play areas clear of dog mess.

The council said: "If you don’t clear up after your dog, Community Police Officers and the council’s dog warden can serve you with a fixed penalty notice; you could be prosecuted and, if found guilty, fined up to £1,000."
