PEOPLE who want to start 2020 with a bit of extra cash in their pocket are being encouraged to support Wiltshire Council at the General Election.

The council is looking for counters to work at Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre in Salisbury or The Olympiad Leisure Centre in Chippenham on the evening of 12 December, working into the early hours. People will be paid £150 for their time.

Acting Returning Officer, Carlton Brand, said: “We’re really pleased with how plans are shaping up for the election, but we will still need a little help. Working at an election is fast-paced, busy but also fun and it’s a good experience to play a role on such an important occasion for the country.

“If you can count to ten, then you’re perfect for the role”

Anyone interest should email electionstaff@wiltshire.gov.uk stating the venue they’d prefer to work at.

The polls will be open on December 12 from 7am until 10pm with 357 polling stations available throughout the county.

The deadline to register to vote in the election is by midnight on 26 November. People have until 5pm on 26 November to register to vote by post. If people want to nominate someone else to vote on their behalf they have until 5pm on 4 December to register. People are advised not to leave it until the last minute.

To register to vote, people must:

• be registered to vote

• be 18 or over on the day of the election (‘polling day’)

• be a British, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizen

• be resident at an address in the UK (or a British citizen living abroad who has been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years)
