THIS week we brought you news that Chippenham’s Business Improvement District will be scrapped after the town’s firms voted against its renewal. From the 199 votes cast, 105 businesses voted against the BID in the four week-long postal vote. This means that the BID will cease to exist on March 31 2020 and the next few months will be spent winding the company up. Chippenham BID has been running for just under five years after it won the initial vote comfortably.

HERE IS WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY ON FACEBOOK:

VAL MELVILLE: This is so short sighted. Who else will organise events for the town? Volunteers are in very short supply. Congratulations to the BID on everything they did in the past - so many excellent events which were raising the profile of Chippenham. It will be interesting to see how the businesses which voted against intend to improve the footfall themselves.

CLAIRE DENTON: Chippenham has always had events organised, it used to be down to one person but the council outed her and employed a team that is felt is not worth the money.

LOUISE MARTIN: Such a shame... will miss them in our shop! Good luck to them all.

ROBIN HODSON: I wouldn’t have any problem with BID if they were either private independents or publicly accountable, but they were a very unhealthy publicly unaccountable. You have to pay them, it’s illegal not to, and they object to you attending their events, because they’re private. Well, actually they’re both.

CLARE CAPE: This is a real shame. I know that High Street retail is tough but cutting out the BID’s support for our town centre won’t help at all.

STEVE GARRAWAY: Shame that many of the events the bid organised in the town will almost certainly cease now.

MELISSA BARNETT: Thinking of the wonderful BID team.Always a joy to work with.

A PREGNANT Warminster teacher died instantly in a crash on the A36, after being hit by a driver rocketing at more than 100mph, an inquest has heard. Wiltshire’s coroner ruled it was an unlawful killing. Anna Kirsopp-Lewis, 34, of Woodcock Road, was killed by Bath publican Ian Barton who had been filmed on dashcams driving at estimated speeds of up to 134mph.

MARIA KIFF: Very sad and very dangerous driving which resulted in the loss of a mother and her baby when it should have been the happiest of times.

Sarah Louise: Very sad and reckless on the man who took two innocent lives that day.

Debbie Fox: So so sad complete waste of two lives due to excessive speed not forgetting the loss of a unborn child. Totally devastating.

Dean Angell: I wish he survived so he had to live with what he had done. There must be a reason why he was driving like that, sounds like he had anger problems or something similar.

Ruth Randall: To lose a loved one is bad enough, but to lose her and her unborn baby under these circumstances must have caused an unbelievable amount of pain and anguish for those who loved her. Why would you drive like that? On a wet busy road?

A NEW council logo has been unveiled by Wiltshire Council, replacing their old ‘Wiltshire Council Where Everybody Matters slogan with what the authority calls ‘a brighter, simple design’. The change marks 10 years since the unitary authority was created, and sparked plenty of comments.

Patricia Jackson: They claim it was their own people who designed it, therefore didn’t cost anything. As for getting rid of the “Where everybody matters”, well that says it all really.

Siân Scragg: I have lots of friends who work in Adult Social Care who care very much!

The most stressful job and desperate fight to deliver outcomes to match their aspirations given 10 years of Tory austerity. Don’t think it’s fair to tarnish them and a lot of officers who do their best every day.

Kirsty Taylor: Haha that’s cause as far as they’re concerned no-one but themselves matter! I guess they’re finally being honest for once?
