A NEW council logo has been unveiled by Wiltshire Council, replacing their old ‘Wiltshire Council- Where Everybody Matters’ logo with a brighter, simple design.

The logo change marks ten years since the creation of the unitary council and sees the familiar phrase 'Where Everybody Matters' removed.

Campaigners have often used the phrase to urge the council to show its support for projects, from protecting children’s service to speaking on climate emergencies.

The authority unveiled its new design on social media to a mixed response, and quickly confirmed that an in-house graphics team had drawn up the new design at no tax payer's cost.

Stock of papers and merchandise with the old design will still be used until it needs replacing and then the new logo will slowly take centre stage.

but when Wiltshire County Council, Kennet, North Wiltshire, Salisbury and West Wiltshire District Councils became one unitary council in 2009, it spent £475k rebranding, including £198,244 across buildings, £2,366 on road signs and £23,505 in car parks.

Wiltshire Council Leader, Cllr Philip Whitehead, said: “As Wiltshire Council moves into its second decade and a new era we thought now was the perfect time to refresh our logo. We also needed to change the old font as it was not helpful for people with visual impairment. The new logo has been designed by our in-house graphic designers and by taking a phased approach to rolling it out we are ensuring there is no additional cost to our residents. It’s not a dramatic overhaul but a subtle change that ensures we meet accessibility guidelines moving forwards.”

Wiltshire Council – Where Everybody Matters

In 2009, the council said that tag line was created: “With the help of local people to reflect what they wanted the new council to stand for.”

But local people have often used the phrase against the council while making impassioned pleas to improve services.

Mike Sutton of Westbury Town Council speaking against a plan to build a gasification plant in Westbury said: “Consider the health of the people you are meant to represent. Some things have to come first and I wouldn’t want to be in a situation Where Everybody Matters unless you are worried about their health and safety.”

Resident Paul Vezey, on paying an increased fee of £49 a year for garden waste collection service: “Their logo is 'Where Everybody matters'. The 'Everybody' certainly doesn’t apply to tending to people’s concerns and issues ignoring emails seems to be the norm.”

Gordon Hutt, from Marlborough on winter gritters:“In the recent snow the access to the school entrance was not even gritted. The motto of Wiltshire Council ‘where everybody matters’ clearly does not include Marlborough. We seem to be invisible to Trowbridge.”
