IT WAS Friday night, and we were keen to try out The Tasty Greek in Westbury, up for a British Takeaway Award, and Nacho Cheese in Trowbridge, last year’s triumphant winner, to see what all the fuss was about.

Ordering through Just Eat, which sponsors the awards for all things takeaway, we wanted to taste the best in the South West for ourselves.

Gleefully typing the Greek restaurant into the app, we were confused to see that it wasn’t doing deliveries.

Could our dream of a delicious binge tv filled evening be fading away before it had even begun?

But we quickly realised that it was just because they were super busy and so we ordered over the phone instead and trundled over to Westbury.

It was clear that they were busy, there were calls coming in, drivers picking up big bags of food and a few people in the small waiting area.

A few minutes later and a dash over to Tesco Express to get cash, which worked up my appetite, and we were back in the car with delicious smells coming from the bag, impressed with the service we received.

We ordered the chicken and mixed meat Gyros which was still piping hot when we got home and had a generous portion of some kind of garlic mayonnaise and chips stuffed into a warm breaded gyro with the meat.

We also had halloumi fries which was a mega portion and extra chips, but they weren’t needed as the mains were enough to satisfy our need for an end of week treat.

We would both highly rate The Tasty Greek and commend the staff, but think as this takeaway is set to grow in popularity, more staff might be needed to keep evenings running smoothly.

We thought that the food was really fresh and tasty. The chicken was cooked in a delicious mix of Greek spicing which gave it a peppery flavour. With it being cooked on a grill it had a nice chargrilled taste. If we had known about there being chips in the pitta then we probably wouldn’t have ordered any extra but the herby fries were moreish and a first time try which we would get again. The halloumi fries were very good as they were crispy and salty.

If a taste of something more spicy is more up your street, Nachos Cheese might be for you. They are serial awards winners with several nominations and Gold taste awards under their belts.

And their Chimichanga might be just one reason behind their success.

It was a hot and crunchy wrap, that had been fried to be slightly crunchy, stuffed full of chicken and vegetables.

The nachos had some kind of secret sauce poured on top which was delicious but I probably wouldn’t order them again, I think there were other things on the menu that appealed more to me.

We ordered at 8.10pm and were told by the app it would take about an hour for delivery.

By the time we had driven to Westbury and back for the Greek, it was there ready and waiting.

The churros were soft in the middle with a comforting taste. Despite being a huge chocolate lover out of the caramel and chocolate sauce the caramel was tastier as it was sweet like maple syrup.

The food from both places seemed fresh, with lots of ingredients that did not seem at all greasy or like a typical fast food order.

Good luck to both businesses representing Wiltshire this year!
