A WOMAN diagnosed with breast cancer is urging women to donate unwanted bras to raise awareness and money for a research charity.

Faye Meakin, from Compton Bassett, has gathered more than 1000 of them which she will donate to research charity Against Breast Cancer and is still hoping for more donations.

The 40-year-old estimates they have about 200kg of bras which roughly equates to £150 of cash for the charity’s research department.

Ms Meakin said: “I was diagnosed last year and have been through chemotherapy. I am now on the road to recovery.

“I’m not just doing this to raise money for charity, but also to make people more aware.

“I’m hoping that when people look through their drawers for old bras they will also be encouraged to check themselves of lumps.”

The six collection bins in and around Calne, at Beversbrook Surgery, Patford House Surgery, Sutton Benger surgery, G&S Jewelers, Pound Farm Shop and Goatacre Village Hall, are not collected until the end of October.

Once the bras are picked up by the charity, she will know the full amount of money she has helped to raise.
