A NEW kitchen at a Devizes junior school is giving youngsters the opportunity to not only learn how to cook but also the importance of healthy eating.

The kitchen has been added to Southbroom St James school in Devizes and is proving a hit with staff and pupils alike.

Teaching assistant Anita Roberts is to start an after school club from next month but the area, which was kitted out with help from Magnets of Trowbridge, is already being put to good use.

Headteacher Gareth Bailey said: “It is a unique opportunity to have this available to our staff and children to help understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.

“In the long-term it will support us in allowing our parents and children to flourish and realise the importance of a healthy and varied diet.

“It is also important that children know where our food comes from and how ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed.”
