SCORES of extra books are now on the shelves at a village primary school near Devizes which is embarking on a new chapter in its life.
Rowde Academy is undergoing many changes after Ofsted inspectors highlighted a number of issues that need improving including reading.
But head Sue Hulford is confident her school can get out of special measures and is delighted with the gift of £4,000 worth of books from Rowde Academy Friends and Teachers.
Teacher Kate Dummett, who is the school’s reading lead, said: “Having new and current high quality children’s books is very important as reading and building a love of reading has a strong impact on all areas of their learning.
“Reading for pleasure increases empathy, better relationships with others and improved well-being. It also impacts of children’s attainment now and in the future. Plus it’s great fun.”
Money was raised by holding events including discos, a film night, selling Christmas cards and refreshments at school tournaments.
