A BOOK which features the rise and fall of a forgotten country house on the outskirts of Devizes is to be launched at Wiltshire Museum.

Author Simon Baynes will be at the museum on November 6 from 5pm to 7pm to introduce the story of Roundway Park.

His book The Forgotten Country House tells the story of a once great property brought down by tragedy and includes details of the role Mr Baynes’ own family played in the home’s history.

Matthew Collis from publisher’s Quiller said: “It is part family history and part love letter to the English country house.

“Simon Baynes draws on family papers and new research to pay a fitting, evocative tribute not just to his ancestors, but also to a lost world and the people who lived in it.

The Forgotten Country House tells the fascinating untold story of a once gran Palladian house built in the golden age of the Georgian age but brought down by family tragedy and the effects of social and economic changes in the early 1950s.”

Mr Baynes, who is married to architect Maggie and has two daughters, lives in Wales.

The book, Mr Baynes second, will be released on October 31.
