A DRIVER is still on the run following a130mph car chase between Malmesbury and Chippenham yesterday.

At 1.30pm on Wednesday police were alerted to two suspicious cars in connection to a burglary in Malmesbury.

A grey Audi A3 and a white Ford B-Max fled the scene and police began chasing the suspects.

The Audi reached speeds of 130mph as it headed towards Chippenham town centre, and 70mph in a 30mph zone along Malmesbury Road.

The driver then left the vehicle behind the Travelodge in Foundry Lane before getting out of his car and running across the railway line, out of sight.

Meanwhile officers successfully stopped the Ford on Scotland Hill, near Upper Seagry, north of the M4.

The 25-year-old man from Semington, who drove the Ford, was arrested in connection with a burglary in another force area and has since been released under investigation while our enquiries continue.

Det Con Kevin Golledge, from North Wiltshire Community Tasking Team, said: “We know Chippenham was very busy at the time of yesterday’s pursuit and there will be people who witnessed something which could help with our enquiries.

“The driver of the Audi remains outstanding at this stage, despite extensive searches of the area.

“If you were in the town centre yesterday and saw the Audi being driven dangerously and erratically, or if you saw the suspect when they fled the car, then please call police.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have dash cam footage which could assist our investigation.”
