CALNE Town Football Club has been given permission to hold live events and sell alcohol at its football matches.

The grounds at Bremhill View in Calne could be hosting open air cinema events and charity fundraisers in the future after permission was given for an events and alcohol licence.

Despite concerns raised by neighbours about anti social behaviour, the clubs committee confirmed that the alcohol licence would only be used during football games.

Trudi East and Simon Gardener are part of the committee of volunteers who run the football club, which attracts around 60 people to weekly football matches.

Ms East said:“We are not intending to open the football ground up seven days a week. We mainly have matches on a Saturday and some evening matches. We do not want to do anything to damage the pitch, we are all about football. People are already bringing alcohol to matches but if this allows the club to make £20-40 in sales that will have a huge positive impact on the club."

The license will allow up to 500 people to attend events held at the site.

The decision was made by Wiltshire Councillors at a licensing committee held in Chippenham.
