THE Army Cadet force, in Corsham, are starting a food bank to help families struggling on approach to a difficult time of year for people financially.

In a letter to parents, SI Phill Rice of Wiltshire, Corsham Detachment said: “This time of year can be very difficult for families and individuals who are already managing on an extremely tight budget.”

The collection is in aid of Bradford on Avon’s The Hub which is a charity aimed to help the community improve poverty.

For four weeks, from October 23 to November 20, they will be collecting donations at the detachment in Corsham to be delivered to The Hub for the Christmas period. The food donated is used by The Hub to support people who are struggling to put food on the table during the festive season.

Mr Rice said: "Hopefully it will get the cadets into the community and drive their knowledge. We picked that food bank to help this year so it will be awareness for them too."

He added that all food donated is being used locally and is an invaluable boost to food banks’ stocks at a time of year that is always extremely busy and demand for emergency food is high. They are hoping to get as many food items suitable for a food cupboard.
