A STREET dance school based in North Wiltshire scooped two awards at a national competition in Chippenham on Saturday.

Xpression StreetDance, who has dancers from Chippenham, Corsham, Calne and Devizes, was awarded first place in the under 14s solo category as Micayla Fry scooped gold and the school's competition crew, Baseline Beats, came third in the under 14s group category.

Micayla, aged 14 from Chippenham, had to dance freestyle to music she had never heard before.

Baseline Beats, consisting of seven dancers aged 11-14 performed for two minutes.

Diane Prior, who runs the Xpression StreetDance school, said: “This is our second time competing in the BDO Street Dance Championships and we have come away with awards both times which we are so pleased about.

Our main intention is for our crew to have a great day in an environment with like-minded people who have a passion for dancing and that’s definitely achieved every time we attend these competitions.

I’m so proud of our dancers and look forward to channelling our energy into our upcoming show in November.”
