A SELL-OUT field of 345 runners took part in the Devizes 10k on Sunday, with Simon Nott and Sarah Kingston taking the winner's prize in the men's and ladies races respectively.

The race started on Nursteed Road and took in a picturesque undulating route across Monument Hill, Etchillhampton and Coate, with the finish on The Green back in the town.

The event was a partnership between Devizes Running Club and Calne-based LPS Events, and Devizes RC chairman Simon Gilbert was delighted with the outcome.

“To sell out the Devizes 10k for the second year running is fantastic," said Gilbert.

"It was great to have so many local runners taking on the 10k course along with local club runners competing in the Wiltshire Road Race League.

"The event couldn't have taken place without the fantastic volunteering efforts of the 50 helpers and marshals from Devizes Running Club and the LPS events team.

"I would like to also thank the local running community and ZELF for supporting the event. A donation will be made to Wiltshire MIND from the profits of the race.

"The plan is to build on this year’s success and make the Devizes 10k bigger and better in 2020. A provisional date has been set for Sunday, September 27 next year.”

Calne Running Club's Nott dominated the men’s race and was first home in a time of 34mins 41secs, followed by Gary Dunstone (35:57) and Peter Merritt (37:07). Joe Bowerbank was the first Devizes RC runner home in fourth in a time of 37:21

The ladies' race was won by Kingston, of Southampton Athletic Club, in a course record time of 39mins 36secs. Second was Denise Nott (43:19), with Vicky Henderson third (44:34).

Calne Running Club dominated the team awards, winning both the male and female classes.

The age category winners were Harry Davies (male junior), Gary Dunstone (MV40), Chris Suter (MV50), Peter Clardy (MV60) and Ken Snook (MV70), Georgia-May Bodily (female junior), Jennifer Marlow (FV35), Denise Nott (FV45), Julie Trudgeon (FV55) and Brenda Avery (FV65).
