IF you were to ask me what is my favourite sort of food to have whilst eating out at a restaurant, I would say seafood.

Prawns, squid, mussels and salmon are all favourites of mine, so when we decided to go to Loch Fyne in Bath I was thrilled and thought we were sure to be in for a great evening.

I think it would be fair to say we had high expectations for both the food and drink in this popular restaurant.

We have been here before on special occasions, so were aware that we may end up paying a little more than usual here.

We made the 20 minute drive to Bath and our stomachs were rumbling by the time we got there and parked up.

Once we arrived we were greeted quickly and politely and seated at a very pleasant table near the window and across from the fish counter in the open kitchen. The size and freshness of the catches was very impressive.

We took a look at the menu and were slightly disappointed to find they had changed it since we were last here around three months ago.

Some may think changing the menu regularly is a good thing, however we knew what our favourite dishes were and they unfortunately didn't appear on this menu.

Last time I thoroughly enjoyed a seafood pasta with prawns, squid and mussels in a white wine sauce, but this had been replaced with a prawn linguine in a tomato sauce, however the waiter told us they had run out of this dish anyway.

We were also a little sad to see that mussels had been completely removed from the starters and the main menu.

However we thought we would take this opportunity to try something new, who knows it might be even better than our existing favourites.

We opted for chilli and garlic king prawns and sea salt and pepper squid starters which me and my partner shared between us. We both thoroughly enjoyed the dishes and their dainty but tasty garnishing.

For mains, I went for the the Loch Fyne seafood mixed grill which was made up of Scottish salmon, Scottish king scallop, Manila clams, squid, sea bass fillet, samphire, wilted spinach, lobster butter, sautèed new potatoes.

I did suggest that me and my partner share this as it sounded rather large, however I was glad we didn't as it was smaller than I expected, although very enjoyable.

My partner went for the less adventurous option of battered loin of cod and twice‐cooked chips which he was very impressed with, and considering we had just come back from a holiday in Cornwall where we ate lots of classic fish and chips, this was quite the compliment.

We went for a traditional crème brulee and a baked chocolate tart for pudding. Both were delicious, the brulee especially, and weren't too heavy.

In total our bill came to £79.35 with one cocktail and a beer for our drinks. The food was absolutely lovely and the staff were excellent, however we may wait to see if our favourite dishes get re-added to the menu before we go and spend this again.
